Time to make some moolah! |
Make Some Money With Your Next Move
We've talked about getting rid of things prior to your move, oh the clutter! But if you want to make some money, here's how you can do so.
- Clothes: Consider a consignment store to sell the clothes for you if they are fairly new and in good condition. The store will cut you a percentage once they sell. If you want to manage them through an online store, there are places like Poshmark or even eBay. Local to the DC are? We recommend Sunflowers Consignment Boutique and Growing Years.
- Tools: If you haven't been using your tools and don't think you will be need them, you may be able to get up to 50% of the original value of your power tools.
- Electronics: Do you have old smartphone or tablet? That's one of the easiest to sell to a refurbisher for cash. That computer collecting dust can bring you some money too. You can always look around and see what else you might have have to sell online or even at your local pawn shop. Why not see who is going to give you the best price?
- Appliances: Large ones like kitchen and laundry appliances are very costly to move, so it might be best to either leave them behind or sell them. Selling these on your own, you may get 40-50% of the original value. Small kitchen appliances can be sold on Craigslist, NextDoor, eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
- Furniture: Antique furniture can be lucrative for you. Or maybe you have a piece of furniture that is just not worth moving because it's too big and difficult to move again. Try to sell the furniture yourself on Craigslist since you will get the full profit. Using a consignment shop is an option, however they will be splitting the profit so you may not earn as much this way.
- Toys: If you have toys in good shape, then let other kids enjoy them. Parents are always looking for a bargain, so sell on Craigslist, NextDoor, eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
- Books: Do you have any rare books or something that is out of print, or even textbooks? They could be worth selling, possibly for a lot of money. Look into selling them on Amazon or other sites. If nothing else, check with your local bookstore. They may be selling to take some books off your hands for a few dollars in your pocket.
- Yard Sale: If you still have some miscellaneous items left shortly before your move that you think people might want, have a yard sale. You'll be surprised how much you can make and also get rid of at the same time. Better yet, piggy back with a neighbor's yard sale or ask a friend if you can borrow their yard if you don't have one.
- Donate: Choose a qualified charity, ask for a receipt and you can get a tax write-off.
