Top 5 Things to Know About Moving Into a Condo
Congratulations on buying your new condominium! The lifestyle provides many conveniences and a few unique things that you might need to know if you are a new owner moving into one.
- Booking Your Move: Book your moving date with your condo manager or concierge. You will need to schedule the elevator, if one is required, and some condos require a moving deposit in case there is damage. If your building has restrictions on hours allotted to use the elevator, etc., it is important to note these and pass it along to your hired moving company.
- Utilities: Also ask about utilities set up with your condo manager or concierge. The internet/cable TV are often covered with condo association fees, so be sure to check on installing them for your move-in.
- Renovations: Keep in mind that any renovations you may want to do will now require approval from your condo board. Before you make any changes to your new home, even window coverings, check your condo rules before making any decisions or purchases.
- Repairs: A lot of repairs on your property will be covered by the condo association, so that's a beautiful thing! If an appliance breaks, you're likely on your own dime.
- Noise: Be kind to your neighbors and keep the noise levels down. Some people forget about this if you're coming from a stand-alone house and not used to having people right next to you and below you. You'll appreciate the same from your neighbors as well. Your condo may have specific rules, but generally after 10pm, you should lower the volume on your music and TVs. Use the party room if you're having a large number of guests over. Your neighbors will appreciate it!
